NerdPr0n Interview: DIY Porn For Nerds (Part 1) I like porn. Actually, I love it. At least theoretically. Looking at naked people is generally pretty cool as long as they don't have goiters or open wounds or anything. But most porn is not exactly the healthiest experience possible for all those involved. Like sausage and politics, a peek behind the scenes can be enough to turn you off to it for a while. Popular sites like Bangbus thrive on the humiliation of their female performers. Even ostensibly woman-positive sites like Suicide Girls might not be as performer-friendly as they'd like you to believe. A lot of the time it's not even sexy, taking the "fake blondes with fake breasts having fake orgasms" route to bland monotony. Anna's site, Nerdpr0n.com, is different. Her boss treats her well because she's the boss. She's proud of being a nerd and she handles every aspect of her own site. She writes the code, answers the emails, and stars in the pictures. She runs Linux, builds her own computers, and she might play more games than you do. And she does porn. What she's doing with Nerdpr0n.com is impressive, positive, and a lot of fun. She was kind enough to give us an interview. Here's the first part. OtakuBooty: How'd you get started on your Nerdpr0n venture? There are lots of geeks that like porn and/or sex, but there's a pretty big leap involved in making the jump from "liking sex" to "making and starring in your own porn site".
Anna: It's not just liking porn... I was always doing stuff like taking pictures during sex with my boyfriends and girlfriends or just taking my own pictures. I was originally a photography major, as well, so I ventured quite far into artistic-nude territory, and took a lot of pictures of other chicks as well as self-portraits. I have always loved nude photography, whether it be artistic or lewd, and when I started my livejournal years and years ago, I was putting pictures up in show_your_boobs long before I ever had a website. At some point, it occurred to me that I could put all my pictures up on a site, charge admission, and have extra cash to support my book habit, so that's what I did. OtakuBooty: What do you hope your site will accomplish?Anna: I hope that it shows people that porn doesn't have to be vapid, insulting, or corporate, and that porn is much like sexuality in that it should be fun and open-minded. When you don't like what you do, it shows, and porn is no exception - when you stop having fun, people stop enjoying it, and far too many porn sites lack that essential element of fun. Porn should also, like sexuality, be creative and thoughtful. My brain is my biggest erogenous zone and I can't be the only one! OtakuBooty: Traditionally, geeks have been viewed as the antithesis of sexual beings - losers and loners that can't get dates. Obviously you don't fit this stereotype but how do you feel about the accuracy of this stereotype in general? Anna: I would like to mention that I do fit this stereotype to a degree - I am very, very shy in person, and one does not get many dates if one can't manage to talk to people. I also have some very esoteric interests and it's pretty hard for me to meet people that I can talk to. Also, if I feel like someone is just asking me out because they think I'm pretty but don't actually give a crap about my brains or personality, it really pisses me off...so it's not like my social calendar runneth over. But I am far from lonely, as I do have the most wonderful friends, companions and lovers, and as a matter of fact, so do many of the geeks that I know, because they've made great connections with other geeks! I think the traditional stereotype you mention is becoming less and less traditional as more ways for geeks to meet geeks open up. Not to mention, geek is no longer uncool - some days it feels like geek is the new black. It's hip to think, to love machines, to go to RenFest, to read graphic novels - so genuine geeks are finding themselves at an advantage for perhaps the first time in history. ;) Plus, if you really think about it, a geek would probably be happiest dating another geek (since when are geeks interested in Paris Hilton?), so who gives a fuck if that ditzy chick with the fake nails doesn't like you? because you sure as hell wouldn't stoop to date her. The cutie in your gaming group, though... So no, that stereotype isn't all that accurate. OtakuBooty: Your site mentions that NerdPr0n is basically a one-person show, with you handling coding and customer service issues in addition to modeling. Are you aware of anybody else doing this in the online porn world? Anna: It's pretty damn rare, and no, I'm not aware of one. A lot of the amateur sites that are actually managed by women (I only know a tiny, tiny handful) are not actually coded or administered by the woman running the site. Instead of taking intiative and learning how to do the "hard techy stuff", they hire adult webmasters or get their boyfriends to do it. I think the awesome thing about doing that stuff myself - besides the fact that I love dispelling stupid and hurtful stereotypes about what women are capable of - is that it gets me closer to my vision of how I want myself and my site to be presented. If someone else was doing it for me, no matter how hard I tried to direct them, they would fall short of my vision, and fuck that. Plus...I have been coding since I was 14 so it wasn't really like it was a huge step for me to put up the site myself. Also, a lot of traditional site-builders tend to sacrifice dignity in favor of good marketing, so instead of putting up a long paragraph talking about her interests, they put up a few (tacky, poorly-lit, spread-pussy) pictures with huge font saying "FUCK THIS SLUT!" or something equally degrading. Sure, it might sell more (they claim - I'm not so sure but that's a different topic), but I would rather be well-represented in a dignified manner than make a little more money. OtakuBooty: How do you deal with the dual reality of being "Internet famous" and leading a normal life? Do your friends and family know about Nerdpr0n.com? Anna: My friends do, and my family does not. As you might be able to figure out from my earlier statement that I met all my partners online, I also met all of my friends online, and a lot of them have known me since I was too young to put up naked pictures of myself on the internet (or have sex with them - whoops!), and this wasn't particularly a surprise for them. They don't get starry-eyed and they don't get shitty...I really have awesome friends. In a couple of rare instances, a couple of people showed their true colors when they didn't give enough of a crap about me to talk to me and keep up with me when I was just another chick, but when they found out about my site they were sure to show up in my AIM and ask for their free password. I'm not particularly bothered, because those are friends I could easily do without. There are a lot of parallels between what Anna's doing at Nerdpr0n and what we're doing here at OB. The second half of the interview is now online as well. Related Articles At OtakuBooty:
