Good investment for someone who doesn't upgrade their card all the time
- Pros: -Good price (especially with a rebate).
-DirectX 10 capability, even if it isn't fancy, hopefully makes this card a bit longer-lasting than a DirectX 9 card. -EVGA has a clever deal where you can upgrade your card to a better one within 90 days and pay only the difference. We'll see if my wife lets me do that.
- Cons: -Not as fancy or powerful as the 8800 GTS, which everyone seems to freaking love. But that one's too expensive for me.
- Other Thoughts: If you're reading all of these reviews, I'm sure you've found that it's hard as hell to pick out a video card: given two similar cards, nobody agrees about which one is better. In my case, it was between this card and the Radeon X1950 Pro. I scoured forums to get a definitive answer on which was better and never found one; or rather, I could find answers to support either card, with plenty of technical evidence to back them up. There are such claims in this very review section. In the end, sort of threw my hands up and went with this card for the reasons listed above.
Vista gives this card a performance index of 5.6 (of 5.9), for whatever that's worth.
Awesome..
- Pros: Card is absolutely great. Very easy to install, very detailed instructions with great pictures, and the software is amazing. I've only opened the case of my computer a few times, and that was to spray it with air to remove the dust. That's how low my understanding of all this technical business is. I had my old video card out and this card in within about 5-10 minutes. Very very impressed with the performance of this card. I'm pushing 300-400 FPS on Counter-Strike 1.6 with vertical sync off. Very impressive. Also, EVGA has AMAZING technical support. I called twice and they were very nice, respectful, and helpful in resolving the issues I was having.
- Cons: None so far.
- Other Thoughts: Newegg has the fastest shipping around. Thanks again!

eVGA really rocks! Fast rebate
- Pros: It was a good deal and has a lifetime warranty!
It's quiet, and has more power than my wife is likely to need (she's not a hardcore gamer), but it allows her workstation to double as a gaming machine. It plays BF2142 & UT2004 just fine. If you download the nVidia v178.13 driver this card has PhysX capability, as do all the GeForce 8xxx/9xxx and newer cards.
- Cons: None really. Didn't come with games?
- Other Thoughts: I ordered this on 8/24/2008, and we received the rebate check last week - we ordered a number of items that had rebates starting on 7/24, but this was the first rebate to arrive. Major kudos to eVGA for rapid rebate fulfillment!
8800?
- Pros: handles everything I throw at it, plug and play, price, new egg,
- Cons: had 2 wait 3 days to get it :0
- Other Thoughts: drivers from cd then update at web site...who needs a 8800 when this puppy is less expensive and puts out...only hardcore gamers would deduct eggz
8600gts review
- Pros: It's an 8 series card with decent horsepower and nice power requirements.
- Cons: I use this in conjunction with 2 8800GTXs in SLI. My goal was to play WiC on a Dell 24" display (1920x1200) that was powered by the 2 8800s, then have the mega map up on a second monitor (1680x1050) that was powered by the 8600. It didn't work. I got dual monitor support and SLI without switching between the two, but i didn't get dual monitor support within games.
So... If that is why you're thinking about getting this, don't. Get a cheaper 8 series card.
- Other Thoughts: My system is as follows:
Vista Ultimate x64 E6320 @ 3GHz w/ Zalman 9700 cooler BFG 680i SLI 6GB RAM @1070MHz 8800GTX SLI @626/1450/2000 8600GTS LG blu-ray reader 2x 150GB WD Raptor RAID 0 Dell 24" Ultrasharp LG 20" Flatron
