Goldsboro, N.C. — A woman linked to a weekend shooting death was gunned down Thursday afternoon outside a local mortuary while attending her boyfriend's funeral, police said.
Sharon Sheppard, 28, was shot in the parking lot of Mcintyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Sheppard was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities are in the process of talking to witnesses for clues into Sheppard's shooting.
Police had interviewed Sheppard in recent days in connection with the Sunday afternoon slaying of Raheim Antwon Kornegay, authorities said. She was at 602 Courtyard Circle when Kornegay, 23, was shot and killed and was considered a "person of interest" in the case, police said.
Police said Sheppard was at the funeral home Thursday to attend Kornegay's funeral.
No charges have been filed in connection with either slaying.
